People, Students, and Teachers

In Academics, every human is a person. Being a student, a teacher, a member, or a visitor is a role or status on that person — not a separate kind of record.

The directories

Open People in the sidebar:

People — everyone connected to the organization. Filter by member, visitor, student, or teacher without leaving the list.
Students — people with the student role. Enrolling someone in a class grants this automatically. Dropping a class does not remove it.
Teachers — people with the teacher role. Adding someone as a class teacher grants this automatically.
Members — people whose membership status is member. Visitors and inactive people stay on People (or the status filter on Members).

Tap any person to open their profile panel — contact info, family, and history. A student's class schedule is in the row's menu under View schedule, and photos enlarge when you tap them.

How someone becomes a student

Add them to a family

Create or open the family and add the person. They appear on People right away, even before they're in a class.

Enroll them in a class

From Classes, enroll the person. That grants the student role, so they show up under Students.

Note

A person can be both a student and a teacher. People shows both chips; the specialized lists still include them.

How someone becomes a teacher

Open a class and add them as lead or assistant. They appear on Teachers immediately. Taking them off a class does not remove the teacher role — remove that on purpose if they should leave the list.

Members vs. everyone

Membership status (member / visitor / inactive) is separate from student and teacher. A parent can be a visitor and never a student. A student does not have to be a member. Use People when you want the whole picture; use Members when you mean membership.
